“Made in Japan”
The Kantor Gallery is pleased to present: “Made in Japan”, a showcase of contemporary work by a number of established and emerging Japanese artists who have made their mark on the international scene.
Artists such as: Nobuyoshi Araki, Yayoi Kusama, Dadio Moriyama, Mariko Mori, Takashi Murakami, Yoshimoto Nara, and Yukinori Yanagi, et cetra…
The exhibition brings together a diverse group whose photographs; sculptures, paintings, and drawings present a commentary of “popular culture” while emphasizing a unifying element of Japanese culture.
Japanese contemporary art encourages enthusiasm- with its bright colors and child-like elements. The work doesn’t seem complex, but is filled with contemporary cultural reference.
Through comics and animation this generation of “pop-artists” reflects “pop-cultures” effluence on the imagery that is creating and art for our time.
This exhibit will be on view from March 4 through April 15, 2000. The opening reception is Saturday, March 4th, from 6 to 9pm.
