The Kantor Gallery is pleased to present “S E L F I S H” the latest body of work by Los Angeles based artist Kenton Parker. The exhibit begins September 16 and continues through October 30, 1999, with a reception for the artist on Thursday, September 16th, from6 to 9pm. The gallery is located at: 8642 Melrose Ave, LA, CA 90069.

The abstract but still recognizably figurative imagery of, “S E L F I S H”, captures Parker’s transition from producing commercial art to self-described works of art. There is a sense of presence in this work that is lacking in most abstract art today.

Throughout Parker’s career he has consistently displayed a growing genius in his field of painting with a style that has visual impact. This personal work, “S E L F I S H” reacts toward the emotional and gestural brushwork found in abstract expressionism.

These acrylic paintings are characterized by active brushwork and saturated color producing energetic compositions. The exhibit demonstrates narrative abstractions that reflect Parker’s life. “To Paint the truth is one thing, but to explain the truth is another story.”
